Beritabali.com,Denpasar. The Consul General of India in Bali R.O. Sunil Babu, read out the Address of the President of India. Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, delivered on the eve of the Independence Day. He pointed out that Gandhi Ji still remained our moral compass and the world over is remember as an icon for humanity and was considered the embodiment of India.

The president reminded the nation of the importance led by Gandhi Ji on cleanliness. He also emphasized on Gandhi Ji’s accent on Swadeshi or utilization of Indian resources and talent. The president statement is a reminder to the nation that in a few weeks time, they would commence commemoration of the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
The president reminded the nation of the importance led by Gandhi Ji on cleanliness. He also emphasized on Gandhi Ji’s accent on Swadeshi or utilization of Indian resources and talent. The president said that most noble mantra of Gandhi Ji was that of Ahimsa or non-violence, a philosophy rooted in the tradition of ancient wisdom of India, but has a resonance in the 21st century and our daily life. He exhorted the nation to adapt the ideas and maxims of Gandhi Ji in everyday work and conduct. This, he emphasised, is the best way to celebrate Indianness. The Indianness which he said, was part of what India and its civilization brings to the global stage, in the spirit of the age-old ideal of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" or "the world is one family".
This is the ideal which enables us to demonstrate our concern for entire humanity by providing assistance in African countries, taking initiatives on climate change, contribution to UN Peacekeeping operations, helping countries affected by natural disasters, rescuing people regardless of nationality from conflict zones. In essence, he said, “We are Gandhiji’s children”.
He exhorted students to spend a few days every year in the villages to understand and participate in the several welfare programmes and on their impact. The President concluded by exhorting all citizens to come together in the Indian spirit to conserve forests and natural habitats, eliminate poverty, illiteracy and inequality and use Government projects and programs to further efforts at developing India, with a sense of ownership.
The President also paid tribute to the commitment of the freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence. He also paid tribute to the efforts of the farmers who toil to ensure food security and nutrition to the nation; to armed forces who ensure the security of the nation from external threats; the police and paramilitary forces in battling terrorism and upholding the freedom; the women who contribute as sheet-anchors of families and are critical contributors to the workforce; the youth of India in their contribution in fields of technology, entrepreneurship and for their creativity and craft.
The President reminded the nation that it stood at the cusp of achieving many of its long awaited goals, like universal access to electricity, elimination of open defecation, elimination of homelessness and, more importantly, the elimination of extreme poverty. The president highlighted the gram Swaraj Abhya, which ensures delivery of seven flagship programs of the government to the doorstep of the poorest and most deprived of citizens.
The members of the Indian Community in Bali together with their Balinese friends of India, celebrated the 72nd Independence Day of India at their Consulate in Renon, Denpasar, with traditional gaiety and fervor.

Over 120 Indians, persons of Indian Origin and friends of India, along with 40 school students from the Indian school, GMIS attended the function. The Consul General, R.O. Sunil Babu, hoisted the Indian national flag, following which the Indian Community and friends of India together sang the national anthem of India, ‘Jana Gana Mana’, written by noble laureate and noted poet Rabindranath Tagore. The students from GMIS rendered patriotic songs ‘Des Rangila’. Other patriotic songs were also being played on the occasion.

The gathering was also enlivened by performance of the students of Svami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Bali (SVCC Bali) who presented the Indian patriotic song with title ‘Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein’ from 1960 movie Hum Hindustani. The song written by Prem Dhawan describes clash of Indian Feudalism and modern youth. The SVCC Bali students also performed a dance with famous song ‘Jai Ho’ taken from the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

The attendees thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere which was filled with gaiety. A sumptuous feast of Indian delicacies was served to the guests. (bbn/rls/rob)
